Welcome back to a new year with a New Year’s resolution or New Year’s absolution: Resolution meaning of course, promise or solution and absolution meaning, forgiveness or pardon.
So are you going to promise yourself that you will commit to the resolutions you have made, or this time next year will you be seeking absolution because you are still trying to commit to the same resolutions from previous years that failed?
Resolutions are like saying “I’ll start tomorrow” or “I’ll start on Monday”. They are excuses and obstacles. Tomorrow never really comes and there are plenty of Mondays conveniently placed down the track if you weren’t able to commit to the one you were meant to start on. If you have a goal then why wait until Monday, the New Year or even tomorrow, why not start Today?
Here’s some examples of what I mean.
If your goal is to eat a healthier diet and you can’t get to the shops today to stock up on good clean food then don’t use that as an excuse to start tomorrow. Start Today, by getting rid of the undesirable food in your pantry and fridge.
If your goal is to stop smoking and you’ve still got 10 smokes left in the packet that will see you through until tomorrow – Start Today and throw them away. You may feel like you’re wasting your money but the benefits by far outweigh the cost.
If your goal is to go for a walk every day for 30 minutes and today it is raining. Don’t put it off until the sun comes out tomorrow. Start Today by walking up and down your hallway or go to the plaza and walk around there (without stopping in the food court) for 30 minutes.
If your goal is to join the gym and get a Personal Trainer to help you with your health and fitness goals and today the gym is closed. Don’t put it off until tomorrow when the gym is open. Start Today researching on line about the gym you want to go to www.beyondintensity.com.au and start Today writing down all the things you want to achieve, your likes and dislikes, your health concerns and any obstacles that prevent you from achieving your goals. Starting this Today has prepared and organised you mentally for your next step in joining the gym. Your will also be able to go through this with your Personal Trainer so you are both working off the same page – literally!
